The glory days of the sixties saw many fine Rickenbackers built. The Beatles, The Who, The Byrds and heaps more – the biggest bands in the world – all gravitated to the axes that seemed to come pre-loaded with that wonderful jingle-jangle sound that no other guitars on the planet could capture.
1958 debut
The Rickenbacker Model 335 is identical to the equally famous 330 model, with the addition of a tremolo/vibrato system, and, since its 1958 debut, the immediately striking design of that carved, semi-hollow Maple body and neck-thru construction has been making the 330/335 some of the most recognizable guitars in rock music, with contemporary names such as Thom Yorke, Paul Weller and Johnny Marr continuing the groundbreaking work of George Harrison, Pete Townshend and Roger McGuinn.
Iconic
With its incredibly stylish split-level pickguard, the instantly “Ric-ognisable” cat’s-eye soundhole and the dual pointed horns of its thinline body, there’s never any danger of a 330 or 335 being mistaken for a Strat or a Les Paul – it remains one of those superb guitar designs truly deserving of the tag “iconic”.
Astonishingly fine condition
Our amazing 1967 model here is in astonishingly fine condition, with just very light playwear to show for its fifty years. A couple of pinhead-sized dinglets, (see pics 4 & 5), some slight paint scuffs around the edges, (pic # 7), plus some very fine buckle-rash on the back, which we couldn’t get to show up in a photo – that’s it, the guitar looks like it could have been built five years ago, rather than fifty! And not really wear, but the foil insert from the top of the mixer knob is MIA, (pic # 5).
21-frets
For those not chasing a 24-fret neck, one real advantage that many players find with these earlier vintage Ric’s is that they are 21-fret models. After 1969 most Rickenbackers went to 24-frets, but if you’re used to playing 21-fret Strat or Tele necks, then you’re set!
100% ready-to-play
Complete with its original Rickenbacker hard shell case, (pic # 8), our Model 335 is in 100% ready-to-play condition. Check out our soundfile to hear just how much difference this incredible guitar is going to make to your music.
